Joy #39 - Joy in Swimming

May 30
#39
Today I found joy in swimming. I love swimming. It's great exercise too! We went over to my aunts today and a whole bunch of us got in the pool and had a great time throwing stuff at each other and dumping buckets of water on each others heads. It was great. So many great times have come from pool parties and swimming in lakes and oceans.

Who would have thought that playing in a large body of water would be so much fun?

Joy 38 - Joy in McDonalds Sweet Tea

May 29
#38

McDonalds sweet tea. O my goodness it is amazing. And today I found simple joy in it. For $1.09 in my town (its more expensive in the Burg because of the outrageous tax) you can get a big cup of sweet yummy goodness. I got some today and it just hits the spot perfectly! And it's good when you are having a bad day. Another yummy treat from McDonalds is their ice coffee YUMMMY!

I hope everyone has a beautiful memorial day with their families and remember those who are serving overseas and in our country.

Joy #37 - Joy in tank tops

May 28
#37
Okay, so guys may think this is strange, but I don't care. You go out and you are all dressed up. Dress pants and a nice shirt (or a suit for a guy) or a dress. And its hot out. And you feel gross. But then you come home and change into shorts and a tank. Best. Feeling. Ever. It's awesome. I love tanks and shorts. I could wear them all the time for every occasion. That's all I need to be happy. Okay just kidding. But still.
Well this was a short post but I am going to watch a movie now.....see ya ;)

Joy #36 - Joy in Painting

May 27
#36

Today I found joy in painting. Most of you guys who know me and my sister know that she is extremely gifted in drawing, painting and well art in general. Sometimes though I like to use her art supplies and paint. I am not good at it at all like she is but I find it SO relaxing. I love it!! So today I decided to paint some signs for my cabin. I am doing a rain theme :) I am going to decorate my cabin with pictures of rain, rainbows, umbrellas and rain boots :) Thanks Dad for coming up with the idea. Here is what I painted today:

Joy #35 - Joy in Psalm 95

May 26
#35
Today while I was having my quiet time, I read Psalm 95. It's a great chapter and I thought I would share it with you guys:

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
   let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
   the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,[a]
as you did that day at Massah[b] in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

The chapter is pretty short and the whole thing is great. Here are three things that brought me joy while I read it:

1. Verse 2. Let us extol him with music and praise. Extol means: "to praise highly; laud; eulogize". We shouldn't be afraid to sing loudly when we worship him! I hate it when people are in a worship service and they don't participate. I know each person worships him in a different way, but still....sitting there texting is not worshiping the Lord!

2. Verse 7.  We are the flock under His care :) He has promised to take care of us!

3.  The end of Verse 7 and Verse 8. "Today if you would only hear his voice...do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah" If He tells you to do something, DO IT! We need to always be listening to his voice. Read our bibles daily and pray and He will speak. And when He tells us to do something, it's for our own good! I know we can't always see why, but He has a purpose and a reason for everything.

Joy #34 - Joy in exercise

May 25
#34

Today I found joy in exercising. I used to hate exercising. I can't go running, I feel like I am going to pass out. But while I was at school I started "power walking" if you could call it that. Or jogging. But the past few days I have been getting up in the morning and exercising and I feel great afterwards! I know see why some people do it ALL the time. It's really worth it. And keeps you in great shape! I am not in shape. I can not make it up a flight a stairs without feeling like I am having an asthma attack. Seriously, it's bad. I feel the most fit while I am at camp though. Probably because I spend like 23 hours of the day outside and chasing around kids ;)

Random Picture...

I'm sorry, isn't this the cutest thing ever?? hahahaha
I am loving this warm weather! I hope I get tan soon. I am SO white. ;)

Joy #33 - Joy in history

May 24

#33
So I love history. It was probably one of my favorite subjects in school. Not the boring stuff or wars (I wasn't particularly found of reading about specific battles and stuff). I love reading about what people did, who married who, adventures, stuff like that. I wish I could take more history classes in school...haha I am such a dork. But you have to have a great teacher who presents the story well. If I was a history teacher I would present the facts in a more exciting way and get my students attention rather than just standing up there and blabbing on. ;)

Joy #32 - Joy in vintage clothing

May 23
#32

Okay so recently I have kind of taken an interest in fashion. Not really like "high fashion" but looking at vintage clothing and clothing that is a little different. More, expressive. I don't know, I never really thought I was into that kind of stuff but I guess I am! I may start another blog where I post pictures of clothing and where to find it in case anyone wants to buy it. I don't have a job so I don't have the type of money to buy clothing like that but I do enjoy fixing up clothes that I already had. Today while I watched Friends (my sister loves that show so I started watching it today) I took out some old shorts and t shirts and went to work on them. I made some tank tops out of some old t shirt that I never wore. They are super cute! I am not really THAT impressed though because anyone could do it so I didn't take pictures haha. But then I also took two pairs of shorts and added some buttons on the side and the back. Nothing fancy but I thought they were super cute:
So the pockets of these had trouble staying down, so I just had some old buttons and tied them on. I think it's cute! Here is the other one. It looks a lot better in person and actually on me. Okay that sounds vain but you get my drift.

I am glad that the Lord shows me joy in things like these. It's been hard being at home without my car (shes in the shop) during the day, so I like to find things to do that entertain myself. The Lord has been showing me to embrace the passions that He has given me and not to be afraid what others may think. The only person's whose opinion matters the most to me should be the Lords.
I know that is difficult at times. It's been a long journey. I have to admit that I am coming out of a small dry patch in my walk with the Lord that probably has stemmed from my own selfish desires. Instead of keeping my mind focused on him, I have let distractions get in the way. You realize this when you slowly feel a wall of some sort come up between you and Christ. Has anyone else felt that way? I really had to look at my life and see what distractions I was putting before Christ.

Thank you Lord for the joys you bring me in life. And thanks for everyone else for letting me rant on in today's blog post :)

Joy #31 - Joy in Weddings

May 22

Today I know I am going to find joy in a wedding! "I love weddings! Drinks all around!" my friend Natasha is getting married today and yesterday my former roomie got married (I am sorry I missed it!). Weddings are so happy and joyful. I can't wait to go! And I can't wait to be in my sister's wedding in August.

Joy #30 - Lauren's Bridal Shower

May 21

Lauren's bridal shower was last night! (Pictures are up on facebook! I would post some here but I am not on my laptop)
My grandma and I put it together for her (My amazing grandma did most of the work though! She is great!) It was a pampered chef bridal shower and it was a kitchen theme. It was great. There was a lot of great food and desserts and everyone wore aprons. The aprons were judged and prizes were given and we also played a game where teams had to design a wedding dress out of toilet paper and it was hysterical! They got SO into it! We then got to see a demonstration on how to make an easy meal by the pampered chef lady. Lauren and Lee had put together a board of stuff that they wanted and people signed there name under the stuff that they ordered for them.

Overall I think it was a success!!

Orangutan. ;)

Joy #29 - Seeing friends you haven't seen in a while

(Been an extremely busy weekend! I found my joy in every day though and remembered it so I could write it when I could)

May 20
Today I found joy in seeing a friend I hadn't seen in a while. My friend Juliet came and surprised my sister for her Bridal shower which is tomorrow. She is awesome! Sometimes not seeing a friend in a while makes it even better when you do see them. We spent forever talking and watching hilarious videos. I love you Juliet!!! :)

Joy #28 Joy in Midnight Movies

(I forgot to post yesterday! So here it goes)
May 19th
#28

Last night I found joy in going to see the midnight premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger tides with friends and family. It was SO GOOD and SO MUCH FUN. I love movies, Pirates, friends and family so it was a great combination. It was also in 3D which made it pretty sweet (though expensive! Why are movies SO EXPENSIVE?! Come on...)

My friend Seth who died last march LOVED the Pirate movies. We went and saw the last two together. It always called me "Poppet" after that.  I really wish he could have been there last night.

I love Jack Sparrow!

Joy #27 - Joy in presents ;)

May 18
#27
So today I found joy in one of my birthday presents! I love presents hahahaha, I think it's my love language! I love giving and receiving (in a non selfish way! I swear! I am not like GIVE ME EVERYTHING!) But my grandparents and parents gave me money for my birthday so the other day I went out clothes shopping with my sister. Today I went and got a new curling iron, I really needed one! It's a nice one and it's just what I wanted :)

Super excited! I can't wait to use it! :)

Camp is coming soon! O goodness..... I am really excited. It's my fourth year in a row being a senior counselor. I wonder what lessons God is going to teach me this year.

Joy #26 - Joy in cookouts

May 17
#26

Today I found joy at my mom's work cookout. She works at cracker barrel and they won a contest so the managers did a cookout for the workers and their families. It was really yummy! It made me think about all the cook outs that I have with my family during the summer. Because I have been at camp the past 3 summers and will be there this one as well, I haven't got to have as many as I would like. But I love when we have them at my grandparents house. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken...YUM :) Meat tastes the best when it is grilled in my opinion.

I love SUMMER!!! But I don't like rain. And it's been raining this whole week, how depressing!

Joy #25 - Joy in His peace

May 16
#25
Today I found joy in His peace. The peace His gives us when we are broken. Nothing us can give us that peace. Not alcohol, drugs, family, friends, etc.

He is the Ultimate peace giver.

Joy #24

May 15th (I am going to start dating these because when I skip a date I get so confused or when I post late at night when technically it's the next day hahaha)

#24Today I found joy in cupcakes. My sister and Lee just made some and they are SO GOOD! Especially when they come right out of the oven. I think warm cupcakes that were made from a box at home are the BEST.

Joy #23

I wrote this yesterday but literally didn't have time to post it.

#23 Today I found joy in watching my brother and friends perform in a play. Our co op that we are involved in (well I was during high school) does a play each year and this year they did a western called Desperate Ambrose. It was REALLY good and really funny! My brother did such a great job!

I enjoy watching plays :) I enjoy being in them more though! I really wish I could be in a play ;(

Joy #22 - Doing lots of things each day

#22
Today I found joy in filling up my day. During exam week I felt like all I did was eat, sleep and study. But this past week has been A BLAST. We decided to fit in as much stuff as we possibly could. Ice cream, eating out, hikes, snow tubing, dumpster diving, playing cards, etc. Today I felt like I had a nice filled day. It wasn't overwhelming or anything like, it was awesome!
We got up early and went for a hike, came back and had breakfast at the cafeteria. We then went to wal mart and then came back and I cleaned my room and finished packing. Then we went to the store and I was dropped off at the movie theater. I walked around to some stores that are next door to it and just looked at stuff. Then I met my bestie for a movie, came back and got frozen yogurt, had my room inspected by my RD, played cards, took a final online and now I am blogging.
I just feel like it was such a great day filled with a lot of stuff. hahaha.... I do not want to sleep in so late anymore. I want my days to be filled!

So I found joy in a busy, productive day :)

Joy #20 - Taking walks

#20 I am joyful for walks. Today I found joy in just taking a small walk around campus. It’s such a great time to really clear my mind and talk to God. I also love to listen to music while I am walking and it’s great exercise! :) I have decided that I am going to take a lot of walks at camp because it’s a great way to just get away and relax.

Joy #21 - Girls night out

#21 Today I found joy in girl’s nights out. Tonight me, my SLD Lauren and my RA partner Jillian went out for supper, got icecream, made cookies at my other SLD Lorel’s house and then came back and watched a movie. It was great! Girls nights are needed and for you men, guys nights are needed as well.

Joy #19 AND Thankfulness post #19

So I decided to do both my thankfulness post and my joy post together tonight, because they are the same thing :)

Today I found joy in it being my 21st birthday. I just love my birthday because I get to share it with my twin. Today was great! I woke up early and had to go do a doctors appointment. Then I came back and took a little mid morning nap :) I woke up and went to the cafeteria here on campus with my roomie and my friend Lauren. When it’s your birthday here they give you a cake and a balloon so that was awesome! We then went tubing (we have a all year ski slope at school) and then were going to go climb the rock wall but it was closed! :( We then took a little walk for a bit and visited another friend who was working. Then we headed off to Sonic for some slushies for happy hour! WHOO!!
Came back and hung out for a bit (We were on lockdown, meaning that my RA partner and I had to stay on the hall to check people in who would be living on our hall for this week before graduation….long story, anyways…) and then my sister and her fiancee arrived…. but my parents surprised me too!!! :D It was awesome! They came up behind me and when I saw them I started crying (I am a baby hahaha). We all went out to eat and then went and saw a movie.

It was a good birthday :) I am thankful that I got to spend today with my family. Even though I missed my brother!!!
Lord, thank you for today :)

Joy #18 - Things that are free

#18

Today I found joy in free things :) Right now there is an icecream truck driving around my campus giving out free icecream to all the students. I haven't gone to get mine yet, but I am going to right after my last final exam.

Free things just make everything a little better.
Well free things that you enjoy that is. Getting the flu is free but it stinks ;)

Joy #17 - Worship Music

#17

Today I found joy in worship music. They did a leadership dedication service at school for all the future leadership. But they started it off with some worship music. It was so beautiful. I just find so much joy in singing to Christ. When I was younger I would just sing because I liked the songs, but now I have learned to sing them straight to HIM :) I used to think people who sang worship songs with their eyes closed or hands raised were strange but now I get it. I close my eyes now to remove the distractions around me and to focus fully on Christ (which isn't the easiest thing to do when you are me because I get distracted SO easily I have realized).

I can't wait for the day when we will get to see our Savior face to face and worship Him in His presence.

Judges 5:3
"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I will sing to the LORD, I will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel."

1 Chronicles 15:16
David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

1 Chronicles 16:9
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.

1 Chronicles 16:23
Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Psalm 9:1
I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Psalm 30:4
Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name.

Psalm 30:11
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

Revelation 15:4
Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed."

I can't wait till this day:
Revelation 5:13
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"

:) Night everyone!

Psalm 59:16
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

New Template!

I finally got so fed up with looking for the right template so I decided just to make my own :) That way I can just change the background whenever I feel like it or a holiday comes up :) O yes.

Joy #16 - Crying

#16

Today I found joy in crying. Sometimes, crying isn't bad. It is very stress relieving. I used to hate to cry in front of people (I still do) and I never cried in movies. But after I lost two friends I realized that crying isn't so bad. So now I don't care. I watched THE SADDEST movie today (don't watch it. Unless you want to cry of course) called Listen to Your Heart. Yeah I cried, hahaha, my roommate can testify.
I don't know how many people read what I write on here, but I hope that some do. I am sorry that I don't always use a lot of scripture, I feel like I should. I will work on it :)

Don't ever be afraid to cry. Even if they tell you to move on. It's still okay.

I am thankful though that one day He will come and wipe away every tear from our eyes. For that I am truly grateful.
Goodnight everyone :)

Joy #14 and Joy#15 - Luaus and Dresses!

Hey guys!! So I know I skipped yesterday, I told myself that I would focus on studying so I did! But I did find a joy for yesterday so I am posting both today.

First off, Joy #14 was my Ra Banquet yesterday!! It was so much fun, it was a Luau and they had great food, snow cones and we all got cute bags to take home (the guys got messenger bags). We also got thank you notes from our SLD's and prayer leaders which was really sweet. The pictures are of my RA group and Cimber my RD :)

Okay and for today's Joy, Joy #15 (I can't believe I have been doing this for 15 days!!) I found joy in cute dresses! Growing up I hated wearing dresses, but for some reason recently I have Linkgrown to love them! I only own one skirt (yes, only one) and I have a few dresses but I really want to get some more. I think they are adorable! They have some awesome dresses here that are pretty expensive but so much fun to look at.

I hope the Lord is showing you some joys in your life. Everything good and perfect is from the Lord, so every time you find yourself finding joy in something big or small, remember to THANK him :)

I had three exams today. One was really hard but the others were super easy! I can't believe this school year is ending. Girls are leaving already and it's making me very sad! :(
Hey guys! I did not forget about my daily posts! I was studying for exams :) i will post two today!

Template Change

Hey guys! So my last template was causing me a lot of problems. Links weren't working and such, so I decided to just change it all together! This one may not be the one I end up with, it may change a couple of times....

Love you guys!

Joy #13- Paper

#13

Okay so this sounds strange. But recently I have let the world know and embraced my inner love of paper. Cards. Post its. Scrapbooking paper. To do lists. Anything. I LOVE IT! I do not know why. But today I went to Michaels and they have that thing where you can buy all this stuff for a dollar each. So I did, BUT they also have a clearance section where they have stuff for like 30 cents! I bought a whole bunch of cards (i didn't have anymore and was in desperate need of some ;) )
I do not know why, but I find stuff like this so stress relieving! I love calenders and planners too (probably because I am a forgetful person and need to write down everything!)

I am also embracing my new found love of stickers but I will save that joy for another day.

Thank you Lord for simple joys like this! :)

Me with my new stuff! The first one I wasn't ready as you can clearly tell, but I want you to see all the goodies I got! All for like 7 dollars! WHOOT!!!!

For Brian

I am not a poet or anything, but I wrote this for my friend Brian who passed away in August. We miss you.

Brian
He says our lives our like a vapor
Come and gone before we know it
We walk around with our fake smiles
And we feel pain though we don’t show it
O Lord, he left so soon…
What are we suppose to do?
You are the beginning and the end
The first and the last
Creator of the universe, Holy One
Who parts the clouds and plants the grass
We cry out to you
He had the faith
He fought the fight
He finished strong
We miss him.
But now…
He is with the Beginning and the End
The First and the Last
Creator of the universe, Holy One
Who parts the clouds and plants the grass
….and we rejoice.

Joy #12 - Starbucks

# 12
Today I found joy Starbucks.
Okay, so I know they are expensive but I can't help it, Starbucks tastes SO GOOD! And today was especially hot, so it tasted even better!
I love when I am home and I go to Starbucks with my family, especially my grandpa. We got him addicted to Starbucks and now he loves to go. It's not just the drink I love, it's going with people I love which makes it ten times better!

I can't believe that school is almost done. I will be going home next week! I finish my classes tomorrow and then I have 3 exams on Friday and 1 on Monday. Then I have to stay till Saturday because of RA, but I don't mind! I will still be on summer break. I can't believe another year as passed at LU. This is CRAZY! I am actually kind of sad. But this summer will be great and I am returning in the fall to finish my bachelors and hopefully (if the Lord wants me too) start Grad school next spring. YAY!!!!

Joy #11- Laughing till you cry

#11
Laughing so hard you cry!!

Okay so I know I did a joy the other day which was laughing. But this one is a little different. I LOVE laughing so hard I cry. Seriously, it is one of the best things ever!! hahaha, I am so glad God gives us moments like this. It feels like pure joy! I laughed a lot today. But tonight I was watching some youtube videos with my friends Kim and Carla and we could not stop laughing. Most of them had to do with people falling (that sounds terrible but I find stuff like that so funny!) or animals getting hit by cars (I know, sick humor.) The tears were rolling even though I had already seen a few of those videos a thousand times!

Lord, thank you so much for those moments! :)

I only have one more day of classes! (Wednesday) I am so stoked! Summer will be here before we know it!

Hilarious Video of a Helen Keller Play

You guys need to go watch this. I am sorry, I find it hysterical! I love you all, good night!

Monday, May 02, 2011

Even when we don't feel like it we should always give Him the glory and praise Him for everything. We should rely on His word, not our feelings.

Joy #10 - Cookouts

#10

Ten joys already! Wow!

Today I found joy in spending the day with some of my awesome friends at a park. I love parks. They are beautiful and they are a great place for friends to get together.

Today one of my bestest friends Katie and her hubbie Ian held a cookout at a local park. A group of us got together and had hamburgers, hot dogs and pasta salad and celebrated the end of school. My sister and her fiancee Lee came down, so it was great! I am going to miss being here at LU for the summer but I am so ready for a break!

We walked around for a bit and everything was green and beautiful. It was not a sunny as I hoped but it was still a nice day out. I am just so than
kful that God lets us experience things like this. Lord, we don't deserve a God like you!

Here are some pictures of the day. I hope everyone has a great night and a wonderful Monday tomorrow!

Me and the lovely Katie The guys grilling away!

Joy #9 - The Movies

#9

Today the Lord showed me joy in the movies. Okay, so that sounds strange. But I just love going to the movies! You show up, buy overpriced tickets and overpriced food and then walk into the theater. The lights go down and what do you see first?  PREVIEWS! I love seeing the previews! And then...BAM the movie starts and for the next 2 hours you are totally off in a different world (Unless you have to get up five times to use the bathroom and/or get a refill....like I always do) I just love it! Though I wish it was not so expensive! Tonight I went to see Water for Elephants with my RD Cimber and another RA, Ashley.
It was so good! Highly recommended for everyone to go see! (Okay...well not everyone. It's probably a little much for children) and overall it was a pretty clean movie! It gets a little gruesome at one point, but other than that it's good.

A movie is best when seen on the big screen! Or in my living room....on my dad's flat screen in blue ray :)

School is almost over and my birthday is a week from Tuesday! YAY! I hope everyone has a fabulous night!
